What’s in The Future Penn & Teller: Fool Us?
The first season had been aptly hosted by Jonathan Ross, and the second and third seasons onwards have been hosted with the Fool Us Host Alyson.
Every episode begins by introducing the reason for the series. Penn & Teller come out and take their seats towards the center stage. They watch hopeful magicians perform their magic before them in front of a an audience in the studio. Following each performance, Penn & Teller privately discuss the show while the host questions the magicians. Penn & Teller then reveal if they know how the trick was performed, usually using cryptic words or by writing down the method and presenting it privately to the magicians in order to verify, so as to avoid committing public disclosure of the secrets of the trick.
Season ten will premiere on the 16th of October, 2022.
What’s Next for Penn & Teller – Fool Us?
Fool Us was filmed at Fountain Studios in London, England (season one) and the Penn & Teller Theater at Las Vegas (season two onward). After each performance, if Penn & Teller cannot figure out how a trick was done, the magician(s) who performed the trick get the Fool Us trophy and a five-star flight to Las Vegas to perform as the opening act of Penn & Teller’s show also at the Rio Hotel & Casino.
The fourth season debuted on the 1st of October 2021.
Teller notes that the doublespeak can be used to impart new ideas to people without revealing the secret.
If the trick is genuine, or Penn & Teller are unable to figure out how it was done The magician will be awarded a Fool Us award and the chance to be the opening act in Penn & Teller’s Las Vegas show.
A backstage judge, who is familiar with the art of magic and has seen the trick before the show, makes the necessary changes, whether Penn & Teller were fooled and, if yes, to what degree.
At the conclusion of each program, Penn & Teller perform an extraordinary magic show.
Penn and Teller have a friendly rapport with the magicians who appear on their show. Penn and Teller’s hosting duties were temporarily taken over from Jonathan Ross in the first season, but they returned for the second season onward. Penn Teller The Fool Us series was shot on Fountain Studios in London, England during its initial season, before it moved to the Penn & Teller Theater in Las Vegas, Nevada for the remainder of its second season.
Magicians appearing in Penn & Teller: Fool Us are often skilled sleight of hand illusionists and performers. Magicians typically increase the mystery of how their trick is accomplished by performing with mirrors and smoke, or by creating confusion through discussions. By performing with smoke and mirrors, or generating confusion through conversation, magicians often enhance the fascination of the method by which their trick is performed.
The distinguished illusionist Jon Finch noted in his book, Penn and Teller indeed have a close relationship with performers who appear on their show. Some acts, such as those of Nick Einhorn, have been invited to join Penn and Teller’s Las Vegas magic show.
In season 2, the magicians in the top ten who fooled Penn & Teller were invited to perform in a special episode of Fool Us in which they each get the opportunity to perform their act once further and try to fool Penn and Teller again for a further $10,000 cash prize. The magicians are also required to perform during an intermission during Penn Teller’s live Las Vegas show, where the audience members are not aware that the illusion is performed in their place.
Though they remain silent and still throughout the course of the show, Penn & Teller can communicate with each by making subtle gestures. They may also confer with a magician who is performing and request them to repeat an act or give more details.
As of 2016, Penn and Teller have published books on trickery in magic, and created instructional videos on the art of card playing, and toured with a magic show called Penn & Teller: Fool Us.
